As a book author and journalist, I can tell you that cargo space is sometimes at a premium in some makes and models. While many modern cars are designed to help you transport everyone in your family, the trend is more people-oriented than anything.
Crossovers and smaller SUVs emphasize passenger seating and tech; they sometimes have a cramped area in the back for storing your gear.
That was not the case with the 2025 Infiniti QX60, which has a full 14.5 cubic feet of space even when you don’t fold the third row seats down. If you do, you can access 41.6 cubic feet of space. When you fold down the second-row seats, you suddenly have 75.4 cubic feet of space.
I put all three cargo options to the test on a recent road trip up north of where I live.
I had to plan my trip, because I was hoping to make some progress on a book. I first tested the normal cargo space with the seats not folded down. I brought along two laptops because I wanted to make sure my main writing machine didn’t run into any problems. I stashed a duffel full of clothes, some cooking gear, a few gadgets I’m currently testing, and some food. Because this was a writing trip, I also managed to pack two boxes of books in the back.
All of that fit fine on my writing trip, and I felt like I could have brought along several passengers (but maybe not their gear). I next wanted to try a longer trip with a couple of family members and folded down the seats for extra cargo. Surprisingly, I was able to fit a few eclectic items in the back. For starters—I brought along a pair of skis, boots, and a winter jacket.
This was when the lakes in my area were still frozen over, and I intended to find a local park to cross-country ski. No problem, since the skis and gear slid comfortably into the rear cargo space. Everyone brought along a food pack and some sleeping gear as well. I brought those same boxes of books and everything else I had on my writing trip.
Did it all fit? I would say yes, with room to spare, and the ability to bring along three people. It helps that the QX60 is a large SUV, but I liked how it is designed for space—not just for the passengers but anything else you want to bring along. The vehicle has a stylish, urban look which is true of most Infiniti vehicles, but they hide their ruggedness—the AWD and the extra space mean you can do long road trips into the woods and still pack everything you need.
The real test was when I did another writing trip and wanted to bring bikes along, plus everything else I’ve mentioned. With the second- and third-row seats folded down, you will notice a cavernous area that provides more space than either the Acura MDX (with 71.4 cubic feet of space) or the Volvo XC90 (which has 65.5 cubic feet of space). Only the Lincoln Aviator has more space (at 78.6 cubic feet).
Curiously, since those competing models do not have quite the same allocation of space, I felt like the QX60 was a good choice for all of my road trips. It’s a cargo-hauling marvel.
