Late summer is a time when you have to stay vigilant about the spindly weeds growing in rockbeds and popping up all over your lawn. Recently, I tested the Northern Tool Master Gardener Revolt Series Rechargeable Cart Sprayer and it was a godsend.
As you may already know, there are quite a few ways to eradicate weeds. Of course, you can always pull them up by hand or use a weed-whacker, but that’s time-consuming and not efficient. I’ve used weed killer cans you can buy at hardware stores or Walmart that are for smaller areas like a garden, and I’ve bought a larger pump-action weed sprayer.
Northern Tool Master Gardener Revolt Series Rechargeable Cart Sprayer is for larger areas. In my yard, there’s a huge rockbed surrounded by trees. The weed growth is fast and unpredictable, and some of the weeds are actually saplings. They still look undesirable.
In the past, the pump sprayer (which uses a weed killer mixed with water but you use a pump to start sprayer) worked okay. The problem is that, over about a football field length of rocks, I found myself pumping just as much as spraying. I needed something new.
Northern Tool Weed Sprayer to the rescue
The Northern Tool Master Gardener Revolt Series Rechargeable Cart Sprayer is for larger lawn projects like mine. It has a 9-gallon tank which is just about right for about an acre or less. (When I lived in another town I had a five-acre yard and had to use a pull-behind model.)
What worked so well is that this Northern Tool Weed Sprayer is rechargeable and uses a 12V pump. In my tests, the sprayer lasted about two hours which was more than enough to cover that entire rockbed. The sprayer stands on two wheels so you can just spray continually as you move around, although this model can also be attached to a lawn tractor or ATV.
To make it all work, there’s a hand sprayer for spot weed killing or you can use the rear nozzle, which can spray 30 gallons worth of weed killer on a charge. Whether you use the hand sprayer or rear nozzle partly depends on preference (e.g., if you like to zap weeds by hand) but also the number of weeds in your yard. I like the hand sprayer for more direct control over the spray.
A quick reminder that this model is suited for killing all weeds for more of a “spray and zap everything” approach. So I had to be careful with my weed killer to avoid any grass or flowers. You can use a fertilizer, of course, but I ended up liking the Northern Tool Master Gardener Revolt Series Rechargeable Cart Sprayer because you can just do mass spraying everywhere. If I wanted to do fertilizing, it would have also worked fine for that.
Why the Northern Tool Weed Sprayer works so well
Having the option to spray by hand or with the nozzle means you have a choice about precision. I ended up only using two tank fills to zap all of my weeds. But it took more time as I walked around. The rear nozzle would work best if you want to finish the work faster.
For me, I also didn’t want to bother pulling the sprayer with my tractor. I liked that it was on two wheels and portable, and I didn’t have to think about using my mower or extra gas.
The reason the Northern Tool Weed Sprayer worked so well is due to the design. I liked how long it lasted, how it moved around on the two wheels, and how the hand sprayer allowed me to zap weeds more precisely. In the end, the product worked exactly as advertised. I zapped all of the weeds and didn’t have a weedy plague growing in my rockbed.
