How to turn your USB-C device into a brand new MacBook Pro

Apple recently released their brand new MacBook Pro with the return of ports. Those willing to shell out the cash for the brand new, top of the line MacBooks, now have access to what was once considered “legacy ports” once again. But what about the rest of us? Those who don’t, won’t, or can’t follow in those footsteps to a brand new high end laptop? That is where Satechi’s new line of M1 Adapters come into play.

First up, they have the USB-C Multimedia Adapter M1. This adapter takes your one USB-C port on your current MacBook (or iPad, or other laptop) and turns it into a plethora of ports that you would find on the new MacBooks. This includes two USB-A ports, two HDMI ports, and two USB-C Ports — one for pass-through charging and another for data. All in all, for a price tag of $150, you can bring a significant update to your current device, without having to sacrifice the high price tag of the top of the line laptop.

Second up, Satechi also has their next tier, the USB-C Multiport MX Adapter at $180. This adapter has the same two USB-A ports, two HDMI ports, a USB-C pass-through charging port, and  a USB-C Data port. What sets this one apart is that it adds a MicroSD and a SD card slot, a 3.5mm (⅛”) audio jack port, and a gigabit ethernet port. This adapter is more designed for those with those specific needs, maybe more professional rather than more casual usage, and is a phenomenal addition to any gear bag.
Third, for those who want an option for their desktop, or as a docking station, Satechi released the Thunderbolt 4 Dock. This one is a bit pricier at $300, but has quite a bit more under the casing. This dock is meant to sit on your desk and have you simply plug in your USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 — it is compatible with both — devices to connect to your entire workstation. Satechi was able to fit quite a bit in this little dock, boasting an impressive UHS-II SD card reader, 4 USB-A Ports, a headphone jack, ethernet, and 3 USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 ports. As this is a dock, there is also a port for DC Charging for your device and all connected accessories.
