If you have spent extensive time outdoors, you probably understand the value that a good sock has. I own a horse and have worked at various stables throughout my life. At some points in the winter, I have worn multiple socks layered to avoid frostbite when I work in the extreme temperatures of Minnesota. Not only that, but I wear holes in my socks with shocking speed.
The problem is, most wool socks are so bulky that they jam my feet uncomfortably in the winter, and often they just slip off from the movement (my feet are quite slender, so this is a struggle I tend to have). Through this struggle, I have stumbled across a gem of a sock. Smartwool has a variety of amazing hiking socks, and I got to test out the women’s Hike Light Cushion Crew sock.
To say that this sock is comfortable is an understatement. I have never felt a more luxurious sock. It is soft, breathable, and durable. No scratchy wool or ill-fitted lumpiness. This sock has been designed for hiking, and as I used it, I really noticed that not only did it fit, but my feet stayed cool and cozy. There is extra padding on the bottom and sides of the sock so that I can’t wear holes in them like the other socks.
The sock that I got was in a mountain print style. This look is unique, but it is personally not my favorite print on a sock. I didn’t mind much, though, since I use this sock when I’m in boots, so the design isn’t visible. Although I wanted to wear this sock just normally due to its comfort. Luckily, they have other designs and sock options that I find very appealing.
The Smartwool hike sock is a sock that I will certainly recommend to anyone looking for something that will provide comfort and durability through lots of outdoor work. After wearing this sock, I don’t think I could go back to any other wool sock for my outdoor work.
