Make your metabolism less mysterious with the Lumen

The Lumen taught me how to be an active player in my metabolic health. It is a metabolism measurement device. Although I’ve never had a complaint about my metabolism, the Lumen helped me realize I wasn’t doing my metabolism any favors. Luckily, it gave me the tools I need to know how to boost my metabolism’s efficiency so that I can use it to achieve my fitness goals.

I use the Lumen to test my metabolism when I wake up. As soon as I get out of bed, I sit in a chair and put both feet on the floor. The device syncs to my smartphone. I open the Lumen app, grab my Lumen device, and breathe in and out through the Lumen. The device measures the CO2 concentration in my breath and gives me insights into my metabolic health. The daily insights tell me whether my body is burning fats or carbohydrates.

The Lumen’s design is sleek and the designers made it effortless to navigate the app. I never had a problem with the device pairing to my smartphone. The app is modern and easy to use. I appreciate being able to put basically no thought into using my Lumen every morning when I first wake up. My eyes are extremely sensitive to light in the morning so it helped that I barely had to open my eyes to navigate the Lumen app.

The device is easy to use as well. It is quite small; it fits in the palm of my hand. The Lumen device has two parts: the device itself and then a lid that fits over the top of it where you breathe into the Lumen. Its shape is designed so that it fits comfortably in your hand. The cavity where you breathe is large enough that you don’t feel like you have to forcibly breathe into the Lumen but small enough where you can be confident that it will be able to give an accurate metabolic reading.

The Lumen forced me to consider my daily habits and how those habits were affecting my ability to “shift efficiently between using fats or carbs as a source of energy.” I’ve been told many times that eating late at night can stunt my fitness goals. Between a long commute home from work and an early bedtime, it’s easy for me to get into the habit of late-night dinners and snacks. The Lumen showed me just how much late-night snacking can affect my metabolism. The Lumen encouraged me to consider not only what food I consume in a day, but when I consume food each day. 

The Lumen is a fun and techy gadget that makes learning about fitness and our bodies a little more interesting.
