Winter is in full-force up here in the Midwest, with multiple snowstorms already and it’s still December. Thankfully, I tested out a snow blower that provided just the right amount of power and utility, at a cost that is not quite as high as some models. The Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit uses two 24V batteries (for a combined power delivery of 48V), has an 18-inch width that worked well for sidewalks and my driveway, and lasted for several trips out to snow blow my driveway already on one charge. Here’s how it all worked out.
Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit specs
The Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit is a little smaller than some models, such as the Ryobi 21-inch model I just reviewed. The 18-inch width and 10-inch depth have their advantages, namely that you can snowblow a more narrow sidewalk or clear snow on a driveway doing a few more trips but without any snow jamming up the chute.
The unit I tested has one charger for both batteries and charged up quickly for my first driveway run. The first snow a few weeks ago left about 8-inches which is just about the perfect test for this model, which is designed for a max 10-inches of snow.
I like the lighter weight of just over 32 pounds because it meant I could easily lift the blower by myself into my car or for clearing steps. Larger units might have an advantage of clearing snow faster but that also means they are less portable. This model also has lights for late-night snow clearing. I even tested it at dusk and found the lights bright enough to help me see as the sun was setting. The chute can throw snow about 20 feet and rotates a full 180-degrees.
Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit performance results
I will say the smaller and more portable size makes for a fun test. My wife even zipped around with this snow blower in the driveway a few times, easily pushing through the snow. That’s the main benefit to the 18-inch width because it makes the Cordless Snow Blower more portable as you work and also when you need to transport it.
I never had any clogs or even needed to bother clearing snow from the chute with the included scraper. The unit started immediately even in cold weather, although I had to charge the batteries inside so that the charge time was nice and fast. I had no trouble inserting and removing the batteries, even though that can be an issue with some electric mowers I’ve tested. (The batteries can get stuck at times.)
Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit price and final results
I was thoroughly impressed with the Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit and then found out the price is also reasonable. Right now, the Cordless Snow Blower available for $399 which is a pretty big discount from the usual $540 price tag. My only small issue is that this model uses a more traditional crank to rotate the chute, whereas some recent models have a lever you pull quickly to rotate.
No matter — those models also cost more. For anyone who anticipates having around 10-inches of snow or less this winter, the Snow Joe Cordless Snow Blower Kit works equally well for sidewalks and for driveways, lasts for multiple snow blowing trips, and is priced just right.
