Why the Woodland Tools Tree Pruner might make you skip electric tools

Battery-powered tools might not be the perfect answer to every yard maintenance problems. Recently, I had to do some significant tree branch trimming, and the Woodland Tools Tree Pruner worked wonders — without having to charge any batteries.

Before I dive into my testing results, a little background on electric tools. I am mostly all electric these days, minus my John Deere riding mower. I have an electric leaf blower, pressure sprayer, and several other tools.

Unfortunately, not every job benefits form the electric power. A tree saw is one, mostly because it makes the tool heavier and the chainsaw uses battery power fast enough that you have to recharge even after one trip to the backyard. It’s annoying and not that helpful.

I liked the Woodland Tools 14-inch Heavy Duty Tree Pruner mostly because it is so light. The specs at the website don’t show the weight, but let’s just say it is light enough for working on tree branches and bushes all day without being a chore to carry.

Two main functions to the Woodland Tools Tree Pruner

There are two main functions here. One is the saw for bigger branches. The pole extends to 14-feet which was just about right for my trees. That gives you enough length to reach lower branches that are hanging down too low but also not so long that the tool is heavy and cumbersome.

The second function is to snip the smaller branches using a unique cutting system. It’s a sharp blade that you use by pulling the cord, and it worked surprisingly well with just a quick tug. I switched between the saw and the second smaller blade quite easily.

The pole can retract down to 7.5-feet as well, so it’s possible to trim bush branches and other smaller trees in your yard. I took care of some small branches in a brush without any problem using the sharp and reliable saw.

Woodland describes the saw blade as having “triple ground teeth” which, for me, just meant I didnb;t have to work that hard to saw branches. Believe it or not, for some smaller branches, I felt like I was cutting through butter. It was so smooth and quick. A few quick saw movements and I had dispatched the branch.

When to use the Woodland Tools Tree Pruner

Side note here for those who might not know — it is important to use the saw for branches only when it turns cold in the fall, usually below freezing. I say this only because sawing before then can introduce problems with the tree that involve bugs and other issues.

Overall, the Woodland Tools 14-inch Heavy Duty Tree Prune was easy to use, light enough for an afternoon of work, and sliced through every branch. No need for electric pruning anymore.
