NOMATIC Outset Apparel Collection review: Setout with confidence

Nomatic is known for its innovation and pledge to excellence with their luggage and travel products. Now they’ve brought that same passion and commitment to apparel with their new Outset Collection. They’ve created a Kickstarter campaign to launch a line of apparel featuring a jacket, pant, t-shirt, and jogger designed for breathability, mobility, and durability.

The Jogger:

As I put on the jogger I feel the quality and durability I have come to expect from Nomatic. The 100% warp knit polyester with four-way stretch is both comfortable and breathable. Not to mention wrinkle resistant (and water and stain resistant too). They are soft to the touch and flex with all my movements. The fit at the waist is snug and I am a little concerned that they are too tight for me. However, they are actually more flexible than I anticipate. I expected to get waist band marks, instead they balance the right amount of fit and flex. Other than the waist, the other areas fit great and is what I expect from a jogger styled pant.

The highlight of the Outset Jogger is the well thought out design and abundant features and pockets without being bulky or baggy. The anti-dump pocket is designed to keep things where they are supposed to be – in my pocket and not in the seat cushions. They also have three zippered pockets (back, thigh, and front pocket for valuables). For additional comfort Nomatic built in a comfort waist line (with inside/outside draw cord), an articulated knee seam, and perforated crotch gusset. The signature jogger look comes from the tapered comfort cuff.

My only qualm is that the ankles are tight and don’t allow me to pull them up above the calf or really adjust them. I would prefer an elastic ankle cuff or zipper option. While it might simply be a styling preference, I found the ankle cuff restrictive.

The Pant:

The Outset Pant has a lot of similarities to the Jogger, but in a classic pant style or slim cut option. They have a clean design that I find it easy to dress up or keep casual. Both designs come in in black, khaki, or gray (same as the Jogger). The 100% warp knit polyester material is soft and durable. I like how the Outset Pant includes many of the same features that make the Jogger so valuable for travel and everyday wear.

The crotch gusset and articulated knee give me all the flexibility and mobility I could want. The four-way stretch, breathable, wrinkle/water/stain resistant material is perfect for all the hazards of travel and life. I find that the Stretch Tech Waist Band provides me that extra flex to make sitting for long durations more comfortable. The Anti-spill pockets with Flex Access are great for keeping my belongings where they belong.

However, two features stand out the most to me. First, I love that Nomatic incorporated a quick access cell phone pocket. My phone stays put and sits snuggly against my leg without extra bulk. Best of all, I can easily pull my phone out with just my thumb and index finger! The second feature that stands out to me is the hidden zippered back pocket. This is ideal for travel and an extra layer of protection for valuables.

The Jacket:

The Outset Jacket is surprisingly plush yet not bulky. I love the side stretch perforated breathing panels under the arms. Made with premium polyester, nylon, and spandex so I get the same breathable, four-way stretch, water, stain, wrinkle resistant benefits as the rest of the Outset Collection. It is rare that I find a jacket that can keep me both warm and from overheating, but the Outset Jacket finds that perfect balance.

The Jacket has all the features I could want. It is fashionably designed to include lots of lay flat discrete pockets, an adjustable hood, and it can even be packed up as small pillow!  I appreciate that it also has a dropped hem for extra coverage without pulling up or exposing my waist. Overall, I find it super soft and comfy.

One feature that didn’t work for me is the tailored cuff and thumb hole. While I love the additional versatility of having a hidden thumb hole option, the wrists cuff is just too tight. I had trouble taking the jacket off and fitting it over my hands. I wish they had designed some extra stretch in the wrist cuff for flexibility and comfort. For me it is also a little narrow across the shoulders and short when I stretch out my arms.

(Note: The Outset Collection also has a t-shirt, however I didn’t have an opportunity to try it).
