Will Donald Trump release a new social media platform?

Someone logging on to Twitter in the dark.

As you know, former President Donald Trump was recently permanently banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, and Twitch.

Other social media platforms like YouTube, Shopify, Discord, and Amazon Web Services took part in the censorship and removal of pro-Trump merchandise, chat rooms, and servers, the app called Parler, and other content that was affiliated with Donald Trump.

Now, it appears Donald Trump is responding by claiming he plans on creating his own social media platform. Hours after Donald Trump was banned from Twitter, he released a series of tweets from the @POTUS account. The tweets quote

“patriots who voted for me. Twitter may be a private company, but without the government’s gift of Section 230, they would not exist for long. I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED! Twitter is not about FREE SPEECH. They are all about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most vicious people in the world are allowed to speak freely. STAY TUNED!”.

These tweets were deleted in just a few minutes after they were released to enforce the ban. Within the same day, Google announced it pulled Parler from the Google Play Store. Then on January 9th, Apple proceeded to pull Parler from the App Store.

Donald Trump appears to be creating his version of social media simply to combat and oppose the other big companies because of the censorship they have enforced this year. The question is how would this new platform survive in the market? If big companies like Facebook, Amazon, and Google are shutting down Trump-supporting platforms and consumers, then how is Donald Trump’s new form of social media going to be able to be marketed and distributed? Along with that how will it combat other forms of social media? Will Donald Trump create a new version of social media or create something similar to Twitter or Reddit? If he succeeds in doing so, how will he be able to get this new platform distributed without the help of Google, Apple, and others?

The hope lies in where he states that he has “negotiated with other companies” which shows he may be able to work with big-name networks to suit their guidelines. After the tweets were released, there hasn’t been any new information on this matter.  The public will just have to “stay tuned”.
